An interactive projection involving indigenous artists and the local community about the Hunter river system. Participants colour in a river creature which is scanned and projected live on a backdrop of the Hunter river.
"Water Stories" is an interactive digital projection project featured at the reimagined Newcastle Art Gallery. Created by Art Thinking, this installation allows community members to colour artworks by local Indigenous artists, which are transformed into animated 3D creatures representing the Hunter River system. The project highlights the interconnection between people and the environment, focusing on protecting aquatic ecosystems through a calming, large-scale visual display. “Water Stories" was showcased as part of the First Night First Look celebrations. The installation is part of the curated programming for the expanded, re-opened gallery which officially relaunched in Feb 2026. The project involves collaboration with the community, featuring interactive art-making activities and projections.
